Heike buchfelder founded the label Pluma Cubic in 2005.  She studied architecture at the university of the Arts in Berlin and at the Oslo School of Architecture. Today her design collection of various lamp objects comprises 21 unique pieces and is sold internationally.

"The material with its sensuous and atmospheric characteristics is often the starting point. My approach to my work is an associative process of the personal and subjective perception of the things i come across; serendipity plays its part.  The lyric moment, the narrative in an object is of special interest to me."

Pluma Cubic pieces are completely hand-crafted. This includes all parts such as the framework, sewing cotton chintz to the frame, sorting the feathers and putting them onto the fabric.  By their nature, feathers are dirt-resistant. They have a smooth surface, and any dust that gathers can be gently brushed from the feathers by hand.  Due to their horn- like material, feathers are very durable.  Under the right conditions, they can last for centuries, as shown by by the traditional feather ornaments made by the natives of North and South America, which can still be admired in museums today. As a natural product, they may change colour slightly over time. They should not be exposed to direct sunlight or temperatures over 65 / 70 degree C. The lamps should be hung or stood in dry rooms with plenty of space around them. The feathers used for Pluma Cubic lights come from birds that have been bred for consumption. The feathers are hand-plucked and are certified to have been cleaned in accordance with veterinary standards.
